God's Holy Angels
Psalm 91:10-13 (KJV) 10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. 11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. 12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. 13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
The forgoing scripture is identifying the service and ministry of angels. Many of us as Christians don’t consider these angels because we sometimes take them for granted. In the midst of the struggles of life and the pursuit of happiness we feel alone. The scriptures tell us to be careful how we entertain strangers because some have entertained angels without knowing (Hebrews 13:2). It is comforting to know that God has assigned an angel to serve us along the way in this Christian journey. The Hebrew word for angel means to dispatch a deputy, a messenger. The Greek definition means to aide in service, a messenger, to attend to from a root word meaning to attend as a waiter. Angels are assigned to us to aide us in God’s service to do his will. They minister and serve us by taking our prayers to God and bring back the blessings from God. We see this in the life of Jacob in Genesis 28:12. Jacob lighted (interceded) upon a certain place and took stones to make a pillow and dreamed about a ladder, which means a stair case, that reached from heaven to earth. He saw God’s angels ascending and descending. We see a demonstration of the fulfillment of his prayers with the angels. God blessed Jacob because the blessing to the inheritance was with him from the very beginning. Jewish history says that Jacob was favored by Abraham before his death and slept in Abraham’s bosom receiving instruction about the inheritance and the blessing.
There are four categories of angels. These categories consist first the warrior, then the messenger, the healer and the angle of fire/light. Michael is God’s warring angel. Gabriel is God’s messenger angel as revealed in his service to Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus and is spoken about in the book of Jude when Satan came to dispute the body of Moses. Raphael is God’s angel of healing and is reveal as the angel who troubled the water at the pool of Bethesda in that the first to step in would be healed. Then we have the angel Uriel which is the angel of light and fire. We see a manifestation of this angel in Exodus 3:2 within the burning bush speaking to Moses telling him to take his shoes off because he was standing on holy ground. There are many scriptures that cover these angels although the names of Raphael and Uriel aren’t found in the canonized or authorized versions of the scriptures, they are found in the books Enoch, Jasher and Jubilees.
When we real the term “Angel of the Lord” it simply means an angel from the Lord. It could be from any real that God has determined. God sent his angels to strengthen Jesus when he
prayed in the garden of Gethsemane. Gethsemane means a press, it was a place of brokenness and crushing. The scriptures tell us that Jesus’s soul was filled with such sorrow, he thought he was dying. He went a stones cast away from his disciples and prayed three times. Each time he prayed more earnestly until his sweat was like great drops of blood. He ultimately surrendered the eternal cause of the cross to the Father. The Father sent angels to strengthen him.
Whatever we are faced with we must be tried and proven for God’s eternal purpose. We must not lose faith. God will send his holy angels to ministry to us so that we can complete the task before us. These angels are celestial beings sent to minister. Their celestial service coupled together with the holy spirit will give us divine inspiration to know beyond the shadow of a doubt the words of God’s purpose.
This blog is by no means exhalative because God has an innumerable company of angels (Hebrews 12:22) to minister to the cause of our purpose which he has set forth for mankind. We are not alone, we have help. Give your angel an assignment and watch miraculous things happen in your life.
