The Purpose & Power of the Holy Spirit

John 14:15-18 (KJV) 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

The Holy Spirit of God is a person. He is as much of God as Jesus or the Father. Equal in every aspect of the Godhead. The Godhead consist of the father, word and the spirit. In order to understand the person of the Godhead we must understand that God made us in his image after his likeness. He made man with a threefold nature as He is threefold as well. Yet we do not see three of ourselves but one image with a spirit and soul within. God is that same as well, we see one image, Jesus Christ with the Father and the Spirit. Colossians 2:9 (KJV) 9 For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

When we consider the word, we must consider the divine entity that carries the word to the respective place. This is the purpose of the Holy Spirit. He carries the word to wherever it is sent and then the word manifest from invisible into visible. John 1:3-4 (KJV) 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. This is the word of God that was with God from the beginning and the word is God according to John 1:1. Therefore speak the word and give the word an assignment through the Spirit to produce, rebuke, change or multiply.

Jesus could not send the comforter which is the Holy Spirit until he left. He sent the Holy Spirit to empower the believer with a supernatural ability to do what we could not do in the natural. Not only would He, the Holy Spirit come without but within as well giving the believer a double portion of the anointing. When the Holy Spirit comes within we have power, explosive power to do miracles and great works of faith. Jesus said if we believe on him we shall do greater works because he is going to the Father and He will send the comforter. John 14:12

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth. Truth is like a fence to keep the anointing within and the world without. As Christians, we are in the world but not of the world. This world is our temporary home of which we must reside until we are taken away. Our eternal home is above. The Holy Spirit will give us revelation of truth that keeps us grounded and stable in faith as a true vessel of honor for Christ.

The Holy Spirit is our comforter which means intercessor, consoler and advocate. He is the one that gives us access to the Father as our advocate. He is the one who makes intercession on our behalf. As our consoler, he gives us strength to endure the storms of life. When all these things work through the Holy Spirit we have a true comforter, reprover, shower and guide.
